For those that hate the winter and feel like it drags on and on, getting out and enjoying the season is the best way to make it go by quicker. If you’ve never tried any winter sports or activities, snowshoeing is great winter activity to start off with. It’s as easy as walking.

1) Lake Louise Lakeshore: 4 km return, no elevation gain (map)
Starting in front of the Chateau Lake Louise, this trail features classic views and at lake’s end, a 100 m tall frozen waterfall.

Then drive 3 hours to Waterton Lake. (Entrance fee: $19/car)

Where to go in weekend

West:

1. Banff National Park (entrance: about $20/car/day). 1 hour 40 minutes from Calgary.
Recommend activities:

A. Hiking + Hot spring: Drive to Banff hot spring, park the car, then hike to the top of the mountain, take some beautiful pictures, enjoy the hiking (2.5h), then take Gondola (free) back to hot spring, Then enjoy the hot water.
